Our Work
At the Conservatorio Vincenzo Bugeja Foundation (CVB), our mission is to support and create opportunities for young women facing adversity. We work to provide the stability, guidance and resources needed to help them move forward with confidence, resilience and a renewed sense of purpose.
Current Work
CVB is currently advancing its mission through a number of active initiatives and support efforts, responding to real social needs and contributing to community wellbeing and long-term positive impact. Each contribution is made in a spirit of care and social responsibility, and all organisations involved remain independent. Any views or positions expressed by CVB’s beneficiaries are their own and do not necessarily reflect those of CVB.
The Anna Initiative
The Anna Initiative is a programme by the Conservatorio Vincenzo Bugeja Foundation dedicated to empowering young women with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to navigate the future. Structured around four core pillars, Emotional Literacy, Financial Literacy, Basic Practical Skills, and Fostering Creativity, it delivers mentorship, experiential learning, and meaningful collaboration, giving contemporary expression to the founding vision set out by Marquis Vincenzo Bugeja.
Richmond Foundation
CVB supports the Richmond Foundation through contributions that help sustain and expand therapeutic housing services, offering stability and care for individuals facing challenging circumstances.
Technical Museum Vincenzo Bugeja
In June 2025, CVB entrusted the management of the Technical Museum Vincenzo Bugeja – Istituto Tecnico Vincenzo Bugeja Workshops to the Malta Industrial Heritage Association. This arrangement reflects our continued commitment to safeguarding community heritage and ensuring cultural access.
Life Network Foundation
Since February 2024, CVB has extended support to the Life Network Foundation’s after-care programmes by providing one of the Conservatorio’s wings to help accommodate mothers in need of a safe and stable environment.
Our Past Work
For over a century, CVB has been committed to supporting and empowering young women and children through impactful projects and initiatives. Below is an outline of the key work done over the years.
Skill Development and Education (1880s – 1930s)
During this period, we focused on equipping young women with practical skills to help them achieve independence and career readiness. Our training in needlework, typewriting, cooking, and other essential domestic skills enabled numerous women to secure employment. Many of our graduates went on to build successful careers as nurses, civil servants, and other professionals.
Wartime Relocation and Support (1939 – 1955)
During World War II, our priority was ensuring the safety and continued care of our residents. We successfully relocated them to Verdala Palace and later Villa Sunset, while maintaining core services throughout the war. After 16 years, the Conservatorio resumed full operations, continuing to provide essential support to young women.
Partnership with the Government (1978 – 2023)
For over four decades, we collaborated with the Maltese government to expand our services, reaching a broader group of women, including those from the Jean Antide Home. Through this partnership, we developed programmes in education, vocational training, and counselling, helping young women from challenging backgrounds to prepare for successful, independent futures.
